LB Pipes - Overview

The business of manufacturing large diameter spiral welded pipes started in 1991 in Cape Town under the company known as Group Five Pipe Joint Venture. As a 50/50 joint venture between Group Five Construction (Pty) Ltd and Marine Civil (Pty) Ltd. In 1994 a factory was built in Meyerton, Gauteng to cater for the large water providers. In 2017 the company structure changed with the formation of a new legal entity LB Pipes (Pty) Ltd, with Marine Civil (Pty) Ltd remaining as a minority shareholder, the Industrial Development Corporation becoming the second minority shareholder and KDI Pipes (Pty) Ltd becoming the majority 51% black empowered shareholding company of the newly formed LB Pipes (Pty) Ltd. The company is a leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of large diameter spiral weld steel pipes. Pipes are for water pipelines as well as industrial and commercial uses. There is a focus on large water pipeline contracts as well as specialising in setting up temporary facilities to satisfy remote projects if required. Specialising in the manufacture of pipes the company is still flexible for project and specialized work should the market request this. LB Pipes is well known in the industry for high quality pipes. Stringent quality controls are a way of manufacturing, the company is certified in terms of ISO9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications.

Plant Capacity and Capability

• Production Capacity: Two spiral mills with a combined annual output ranging from 80,000 to 120,000 tons. • Spirally welded steel pipes are manufactured in diameters ranging from 600 mm to 3,500 mm, using various steel grades with thicknesses up to 25 mm. Standard lengths include 12 metres and 19.2 metres, with custom lengths available upon client request. • Manufactured pipes are suitable for transporting water, oil, and gas, and can also be used for structural applications. • A comprehensive range of linings and coatings is available to extend the service life of pipelines. • The Company holds ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certifications for its quality and occupational health and safety management systems. • Pipes are manufactured in accordance with API and SANS standards, or tailored to meet specific client requirements. • Each pipe is assigned a unique identification number, ensuring full traceability of all manufacturing processes. • Design services are available to tailor pipe specifications for specific applications.
